You would be a good fit for Haven therapy if you:
Want to explore, in more depth, why you move in the world the way that you do.
Want to transform the relationship you have with yourself, your partner, your child, or your family.
Are ready to actively engage in your healing.
You might not be the right fit if you:
Don’t want to use IFS therapy or are not ready for therapy.
Want a therapist who only listens while you vent, doesn’t interject, and doesn’t guide you deeper.
Are not ready to make a time, energy, or financial investment.
Are looking for short-term symptom relief without deeper exploration.
Are a high-acuity client who needs crisis services or in-patient treatment.

The hardest part is the anticipation before you reach out. It’s not easy to be ready to start therapy. We understand.
Once you feel ready, we make the process simple. Reach out through our contact form to schedule a call—we’ll walk you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic model that views every human being as a system of protective and wounded inner parts guided by a core Self.
IFS helps people access their undamaged, compassionate Self, which knows how to heal, and from that inner leadership, understand and transform their parts, fostering both inner and outer connectedness. (Source: The IFS Institute)
Though it may sound completely foreign, the IFS way of thinking is very natural. Humans are complex. Consider this thought about a new job: “Part of me is so excited to move up at the company, but part of me is terrified I won’t be good enough.” Listening to both of these thoughts- that’s the start of IFS work.

Therapy with Haven looks a lot like what you might expect with some things you might not.
Sessions can look like talking, but can also include art, sand play, or other ways to express yourself that don’t rely on talking.
Haven therapists are compassionate, thoughtful, and committed practitioners who collaborate with you on your journey. You’re the expert on you and we’re the experts on the process.
We are genuine and down-to-Earth, recognizing we are all part of this human experience. We are committed to serving others. We welcome all parts of our clients.

During your free 15-minute consultation you are encouraged to ask about the training and qualifications of your therapist or parenting specialist.
The cornerstone of ethical and quality therapeutic work is your therapist’s ability to stay in their lane. If your therapist is not qualified to help you, they will discuss this with you as soon as they become aware. Haven can help with an outside referral if we aren’t a good fit or are not qualified to treat you.

Haven therapists will work with children and teens with a few caveats. We believe that minors have the right to have a say in their treatment. As such, if your child is adamantly against participating, we will recommend alternative avenues or structures of treatment.
We also believe no client exists in a vacuum (i.e., systems matter). Change happens more efficiently when we change together. As such, parents are required to be involved in the structure of treatment. At a minimum this looks like support between sessions. The recommendations will vary and will be customized to your needs. Your therapist will discuss this with you in more depth.
We encourage you to submit a question or schedule a call to learn more.

Part of Haven’s philosophy includes looking at and considering systems. A system is a set of (2 or more) interacting, interrelated, or interdependent parts acting together as a unified whole to achieve a common purpose or goal.
In therapy this refers to your internal system (your thoughts, behaviors, Self), a family system (a couple, immediate family, or extended family), or a greater system (a school, your workplace, or your culture).
Part of our approach is rooted in understanding these systems and considering how they interact with and relate to each other and how this contributes to relationship functioning.
-
We don’t exist in a vacuum. Because of the interconnectedness of the human condition, change can happen faster and more efficiently when we attempt to change together. In addition to better and faster, the change we attempt together typically lasts longer.
Consider this example: If your child is independently learning French you’re likely to pick up the language a word or two at a time. But imagine what might be possible if you studied French together.

We have chosen to work outside of insurance panels so that therapy can remain collaborative, confidential, non-pathologizing, and tailored to your unique needs, rather than dictated by diagnosis requirements or session limits.
Private pay allows us to provide services more naturally aligned with your needs and within our preferred way of working.

We will provide a Superbill upon request because we want to ensure therapy is as cost-effective as it can be for both of us.
However, please note, Superbills require that you be given a diagnosis which we are able to do but which is outside of our regular practice (which is part of non-pathologizing work).
If you’d like to request a Superbill let us know and please make sure you check that your insurance company accepts them.

Your Right to a Good Faith Estimate (GFE)
Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a GFE for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services
You can ask for this estimate before you schedule a service
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your GFE, you can dispute the bill
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your GFE
